Learn more about Solar Bollard Lighting

They use a solar panel which has a series of photovoltaic (PV) cells which convert sunlight into an electrical current that moves through an electrical control circuit into the storage battery.
After dark, the battery uses that stored energy collected during the day to power the LEDs (light-emitting diode) that are hard-wired into the electrical control circuit.

Solar bollard lights are becoming increasingly popular for outdoor commercial and industrial lighting settings, such as public parks and reserves, pedestrian pathways, retirement villages, townhouse developments, resorts, recreation and sporting parks, mining site worker accommodation camps, and boat ramps.
They are environmentally friendly, weather-resistant, and cost-efficient, making them a perfect option for outdoor settings and especially when it is expensive or logistically difficult to connect to the grid.

Yes they are
Our solar light luminaire, which is the most technologically advanced component of our product, is manufactured in Australia. Additionally, we extrude and fabricate our bollard pole in Australia.
As a result, we are the only solar lighting manufacturer licensed by Australian Made Campaign Limited to use the Australian Made logo (Kangaroo logo) on our products in accordance with the strict AMAG Logo Code of Practice. Our Licensee ID number is 7739.
If a product has solarbollardlighting.com molded into the dome top cover, it’s guaranteed to be Australian Made.

No, many solar bollard lights sold in Australia are imported from China. Many companies claim that their products are Australian made because they use locally made poles, but this is misleading. To be considered an Australian made product, it must have undergone its last substantial transformation in Australia. A pole alone is not enough as the technology is in the actual light. You could use off-the-shelf PVC pipe as a pole.

If you purchase a product falsely advertised as Australian made, you should take the following steps:
1. ask for a full refund from the seller;
2. then report the misleading claim to the ACCC to prevent other consumers from being deceived.

In this case, you may want to consider other factors such as the environmental impact of using solar power, the ease of installation, which can save up to 50% on installation costs by avoiding both the need for electrical and trenching.

Solar bollard lights offer numerous benefits like cost savings (up to 50%), durability, lesser environmental impact, ease of installation, weatherproof, and smart technology for reliable performance that creates safer and better outdoor spaces

They are used for many lighting applications such as:

  • Sidewalk
  • Walkways
  • Footpaths
  • Streets
  • Parking Lot
  • Docks
  • Marinas
  • Pontoons
  • Driveways
  • Staircase
  • Mine Bungalow
  • Yard Lighting
  • Landscapes
  • Entrances
  • Flagpoles

They can function as boundary markers during the day as you don’t need their light.

With so many inferior products entering the market we recommended that you consider the following factors by asking questions before deciding which solar bollard light to use:

  • How long has the provider been in the solar lighting industry
  • Where is the solar bollard light made?
  • Can they give you a project address that is still operating five years after the solar bollard light was first installed (and not since replaced) so you can see it in real life.
  • Warranty term offered by the manufacturer.
  • Should be 10 years or more
  • Battery and pole should be included
  • When you have a warranty issue ask:
  • Who warrants the claim?
  • Is it repaired or inspected locally, or is it sent overseas?
  • What are the warranty exclusions?

They are bright enough for the types of applications they are required for if designed correctly. This will be determined by the actual location of installation and product used.

The lighting level or brightness of a luminaire (light fitting) is called Lumens. This is the total amount of light from the actual luminaire itself, not the LED circuit board.

Yes! Our solar bollard light is designed to perform reliably at 100% illumination throughout prolonged periods of harsh weather, including monsoonal rain or seasonal snowfall.
Our battery back-up or autonomy depends on the power model used for the specific solar bollard light.

Our solar bollard light is designed to perform reliably for over 10 years, and that is why we warrant it for 10 years.
Some of our first model releases in 2005 are still running today.
Its long-term operation will be affected by tree growth or new buildings erected that throw more shade onto the solar bollard light than when it was initially installed.

Our Solar Bollard Light will run from dusk until dawn at 100% illumination.
This is why we do a custom design assessment prior to supplying any product to ensure our customers have a reliable lighting solution 365 days of the year.

Our SBL2 Series solar bollard lights are warranted for both product (including battery and pole) and performance (running at full illumination consistently) for 10 years.
Our pole should last for approximately 30 years installed.

The dome top is our original design innovation we first conceived back in 2004.
It prevents direct impact to the solar panel, or obstruction from collecting the sun’s energy because birds cannot sit on our lights, and leaves, dust or dirt cannot gather.

To ensure exceptionally long operating life of 10+ years they require washing down and polishing once a year in normal operating locations, and every six months in harsh environments.
Maintenance instructions are available on our website.

No. By the time the battery needs replacing in up to 15 years, the solar light (luminaire) only would also require change over.

Spacing will depend on what the solar bollard lights are being used for, the installation location will determine the power model, and if any lighting standards are required to be compliant.
For general lighting: between 5m (16.4’) for the lowest power model installed in full shade, up to 15m (49’) apart for the highest power model. Customers have installed them 20m (65’) apart for wayfinding lighting.

LEDs (light-emitting diodes) produce light by converting electrical energy into light from the movement of electrons in the diode.
LEDs are 30-50% more efficient than conventional light sources.

Color temperature is Kelvin (K), a unit of absolute temperature.
The measurement is based on the color of light produced by a light source when heated to a certain temperature.
Color temperature is defined as:

  • Warm white: 2700K-3000K
  • Neutral white: 3500K-4100K
  • Cool white: 5000K-6500K

Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) or lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) is a rechargeable cell/battery where lithium ions move from the negative electrode to the positive electrode during discharge and back when charging.
LiFePO4 batteries will not catch fire or explode and are environmentally friendly.
