Solar Bollard Lighting (SBL) solar lights operate at full illumination from sunset to sunrise daily. A well-designed solar light will be more than capable of achieving this performance criteria.
To ensure a sustainable procurement outcome, firstly a preliminary geographical location design assessment (PGLDA) of the project site is undertaken which correlates
- The winter solstice profile of the location.
- Levels of seasonal snow or rain expected.
- Shading dynamic across the entire site.
From this data SBL can calculate the correct power model/s that are required for each specific installation point to ensure an All-Night lighting outcome is achieved year-round.
Charges in the Shade
Designing the world’s first stand-alone solar light that would light up at full power from sunset to sunrise in heavily shaded locations created a unique opportunity to offer a sustainable alternative.
SBL has nine power models to suit the varying geographical location dynamics, rather than a one model suits all locations (fingers crossed) product that comes out of Asia, guarantees the precise power level to suit the location to be illuminated is selected for applications such as,
- Hotel foyer entries,
- Heavily shaded city streets,
- Dense vegetative eco habitats
Fully Submersible
The world’s first proven IP68 submersible solar bollard light was engineered to sustain its waterproof integrity to saltwater and chemical corrosion throughout its long operational life cycle.
With climate driven sea level rise and increasing natural disasters such as hurricanes and heavier rainfall cycles causing flooding, tidal surges, or worst case a tsunami, the SBL design was rigorously laboratory assessed and then certified IP68.
The SBL2 Series solar light was a critical requirement for coastal regions, that when all other lights had failed in a worst-case scenario event, the SBL2 Series would continue to light up the night, every night, even when under water.

Vandal Resistant
IK10 is the highest external mechanical impact rating available, but is it enough? When SBL engineered the world’s first IK10 vandal-resistant solar bollard light in 2012, SBL had it assessed and certified through an Australian NATA accredited laboratory.
Adding IP68 submergibility into the design, SBL modified the moulded luminaire components to ensure they were a heavier-duty product tough enough to sustain impacts from large debris in rapidly flowing floodwater.
To ensure this design modification was tough enough, it had to withstand the full swing mechanical impact of a 3kg/6.6lbs sledgehammer.
Recyclable & Sustainable
Not all solar lights have the same environmental sustainability, even though many claim they are green and recyclable, they are not. This is called greenwashing.
When designing new products, SBL considers the entire life cycle of goods from manufacturing to disposal (cradle to grave) and evaluates any environmental impacts that may occur outside of a circular economy at the end-of-life cycle.
Only long product exposure to market, and over two decades of industry knowledge offers the expertise required to achieve a 100% recyclable product. And that is why not all solar lights are similar in design quality or as sustainable.
